Welcome to Darren Schmidt.com
Darren
Schmidt found his way to camera operator through an obsession
with the art of movie making. Coupling his long time hobby
of still photography, twelve years as a professional graphic
artist, and a love for capturing the human experience he launched
himself into mastering the moving picture. Away went the family
camcorder and in came the professional high-def camera. Through sheer tenacity, reading everything he could get his hands on about cameras and production, and the good old fashion learn by doing, Darren graduated from the school of hard knocks to producing commercials, short films, sports videos, a television art show, and web videos. He works as a freelance DP/Camera Operator for multiple companies and idividuals in production, market research, and also independant film. |
Darren’s passion for air
racing afforded him the opportunity to document the thrilling
spectacle of the Reno Air Races, as the head of Team Voodoo’s
media crew and later as a member of the Reno Air Race Association’s
press crew. Due to his unique cockpit footage and vibrant
depictions of the sport, news crews began to use Darren’s
footage. As of late, Darren has provided footage for the film,
“Thunder Over Reno” . Darren has also added MSNBC to his resume.
They used some of his b-roll footage obtained while working
as a PA/B-camera on their documentary "Lockup- San Quentin. Darren is constantly upgrading equipment and gathering tools to keep up with the changing times. At the moment he is using Panasonic cameras shooting onto P2 cards. You get files ready to edit, straight onto a hard drive at the end of the day. He can also shoot standard definition footage to MiniDV if that's what you need. |
